Sustainability in practice
An honest starting point
The construction industry has a sustainability problem.
By nature, construction is resource-intensive. Materials are extracted, processed, transported, and installed at scale. There is no pretending this is a “net-zero” industry.
At CRĒO, we don’t claim perfection.
We take responsibility for doing what we can - consciously, transparently, and consistently, by partnering with manufacturers who prioritise sustainable systems, responsible sourcing, and long-term environmental stewardship.
Our Sustainability Philosophy
Responsible sourcing over extractive luxury
Cleaner, safer materials for people and projects
Smarter logistics to reduce unnecessary emissions
This approach aligns with the expectations of architects and designers who want performance, durability, and ethical sourcing—without compromise.
Certifications relevant to Australia
Some CRĒO products carry internationally recognised certifications that are relevant and accepted in Australian architectural and commercial specifications, including:
• ISO Environmental Management Systems
• Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
• LEED-aligned material criteria
• Greenguard and low-VOC standards
• Compliance with Australian silica safety requirements
These certifications assist with project compliance, documentation, and sustainable building frameworks
Measures we take
European Manufacturing Partners
We work with established European factories that have embedded sustainability into their manufacturing systems, not as marketing, but as operational practice.
Across our European suppliers, sustainability initiatives include:
• Energy-efficient kilns and production lines
• Closed-loop water usage systems
• Reduced CO₂ emissions through modern firing technologies
• Environmental product transparency
• Third-party certifications and audited compliance
Many of these manufacturers operate under EU environmental standards, which are among the most stringent globally.
Silica-Free & Non-Hazardous Tiles
All CRĒO tiles are:
• Silica-free
• Free from hazardous or dangerous chemicals
• Safe for installers, trades, and end users
• Compliant with current and emerging Australian safety standards
This directly addresses growing health concerns in the construction industry.
Porcelain & Ceramic Over Extractive Stone
We intentionally prioritise porcelain and ceramic tiles over natural marble and stone.
Why?
• Natural stone requires irreversible extraction from the earth
• Porcelain offers durability without depleting finite resources
• High-performance surfaces with lower long-term environmental impact
• Consistent quality and longevity in commercial and residential projects
This is a conscious design and ethical decision—not a trend.
Smarter Stocking, Fewer Shipments
We stock deeper than most competitors.
This allows us to:
• Reduce the frequency of international shipping
• Lower emissions per project
• Minimise urgent air freight
• Support large-scale and repeat commercial projects efficiently
Fewer shipments mean a smaller logistics footprint over time.
